April 2013 Three Day Palette Knife Painting Workshop

When my husband and I decided to convert an old carriage house in our backyard in to my new studio, I knew I had finally found the perfect location to teach.  Offering workshops in the Carriage House, which was built in 1915, allows me the opportunity to invite my students in to my home and share what I am most passionate about ... my family, my home and my art. Because of its size, these workshops are limited to eight students. But the intimate nature of the workshop allows me the chance to develop both the skill and the motivation of all of my students.  In three days students will rediscover their passion for art, learn the basics pertaining to values and colors and master the techniques of painting with a palette knife!

This is only advanced workshop this year. I am requesting that all of the students have experience painting in oils, but not necessarily with a with a palette knife. If you haven’t taken one of my classes then you can still qualify to take the class. The reason you need experience is because in this class you are going to learn to paint more direct and at a quicker pace. We will continue to study color mixing and value studies and in three days students will learn how to enhance their passion for art, further understand values and colors and master the techniques of painting with a palette knife! And all of these skills will develop at a quicker pace than my other classes.

Our first day starts off with a unique painting demo in which I demonstrate the basic approach to painting with a palette knife.  This demo helps students understand the basic approach and guides them to success using a simple step by step approach.  We will focus on color mixing and understanding values. And ... you will love your completed painting ...

On the second day we will all paint together and enjoy another painting demo.  Today we will focus on using the palette knife to create visual interest and highlighting the focal point in your paintings. That evening we will all enjoy a home cooked meal at my home, provided by yours truly!

The third day will be spent painting your own palette knife painting (using inspirations photos) with one on one instruction at your easel.  We will also participate in a “musical easel” exercise that teaches you how to paint faster and how to quickly analyze and approach a painting.

We will also spend talking about marketing. As part of the advanced workshop, each student will meet with me individually to discuss their on-line marketing efforts with a website or blog. We will review your existing tools or I can help you get started.
