June 2012 Three Day Palette Knife Painting Workshop

South Pasadena, CA

June 18 - 20, 2012 ($295.00 includes one gourmet home-cooked dinner)

Located at the Carriage House Workshop Studio, South Pasadena, CA

9:00 am - 4:00 pm

When my husband and I decided to convert an old carriage house in our backyard in to my new studio, I knew I had finally found the perfect location to teach.  Offering workshops in the Carriage House, which was built in 1915, allows me the opportunity to invite my students in to my home and share what I am most passionate about ... my family, my home and my art. Because of its size, these workshops are limited to eight students. But the intimate nature of the workshop allows me the chance to develop both the skill and the motivation of all of my students.  In three days students will rediscover their passion for art, learn the basics pertaining to values and colors and master the techniques of painting with a palette knife!

Our first day starts off with a unique painting demo in which I demonstrate the basic approach to painting with a palette knife.  This demo helps students understand the basic approach and guides them to success using a simple step by step approach.  We will focus on color mixing and understanding values. And ... you will love your completed painting ...

On the second day we will all paint together and enjoy another painting demo.  Today we will focus on using the palette knife to create visual interest and highlighting the focal point in your paintings.

The third day will be spent painting your own palette knife painting (using inspirations photos provided by Leslie) with one on one instruction at your easel.  We will also participate in a “musical easel” exercise that teaches you how to paint faster and how to quickly analyze and approach a painting.

Cost is $295.00.

In the Summer of 2011, my husband and I decided to convert our 1915 Carriage House into a permanent workshop studio. Complete with windows and double carriage doors, the studio is located in the backyard of our home. It’s a perfect location and provides all of the amenities needed for a painting workshop. Students can enjoy lunch in my backyard by the pool or under our covered patio (complete with an outdoor fireplace).

All of the workshops taught in this location are limited to eight students.
