"Survived" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Eleven Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 48" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Uppe I decided to try another painting using my new concept of incorporating house plans as collage for the first layer of a painting. I thought it might be fun to call it "Survived" which explains exactly how most of us feel after completing a remodeling project! You can see the palette knife strokes which have left some wonderful texture on the canvas. I think the most important thing I leanred with this painting is ...

Just in case you are wondering, this painting is made of paint on canvas. There is no fabric (or burlap). I didn't weave anything on to the canvas (although the title might imply differently). I just made it look like I did. As I attempt to paint abstract paintings that could hang in a "farmhouse styled" room, I am trying to come up with ways to paint in a different style than I normally do. I guess you could say I am reaching outside my comfort zone. And surprisingly this experience has been not only interesting, but fun.

"Shiplap Times Two" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Nine Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Uppe Ok. I know I need to try another color palette this week but there is something about these browns and yellows that totally work for me. As you know I am painting art that fits in Joanna Gaines' amazing renovated "farmhouse style" homes. And I think the colors work really well.
... "Shiplap" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Eight Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper. As I sit here and post this painting I am looking at my walls to determine where I can hang up some shiplap. I was thinking I could take it on as a weekend project and surprise my husband with a new wall covering. But I am just not sure where it would, I mean could, go. We live in a 101 year old house that could someday be decorated in farmhouse style. My current decor is about 60% already modern farmhouse style so I don't have a long way to go. Shiplap would definitely help.

I am hoping you can see the up-close view of this painting because I am so excited! I used collage of a house plan and intend to pursue this idea ...
"Girls Rule" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Six Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper Who would have guessed that I would LOVE painting paintings in pink? Not me! I am such a "boys mom" and have so little experience in pink things. I am much better at sports statistics and cooking "carbo loading meals" and washing smelly socks.
This is a nice change for me. But it's probably all I can handle. Pink paint that is. I am not quite ready for Barbie dolls, pink tutus and makeup. Well, maybe I am. Hopefully someday I just might get a chance. "Pink is For the Girls" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Five Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper.

I know. I know. I just commented on my blog yesterday that I was enjoying painting in neutral colors and didn't think I would be pulling out any of my favorite colors (especially aqua and orange). But I couldn't resist! This farmhouse themed living room has aqua accents so I just had to add a bit of aqua to my painting. Besides, I love it so who cares, right? And the chances of Joanna Gaines ever seeing my thirty "Fixer Upper inspired" paintings are very unlikely. So we will never know if she would use this painting (with aqua) in one of her remodels, right?
It's pretty scary that I can just about rationalize anything ... I have become just a bit obsessed with Farmhouse decor. My husband hasn't quite noticed it yet but there are a few new farmhouse styled pieces that have quietly appeared in our house. (I also doubt he reads my blog so I should be safe.) I posted the BAKERY tin sign and the chalkboard menu board that are in our kitchen already on Facebook. But I just ordered the adorable "eat here" sign for the beach house because the colors are perfect. And I think it's funny. And it was really cheap. "Demo Day" Acrylic Abstract Painting 48" x 36" Day Three of the 30in30 Challenge, Inspired by my facorite show "Fixer Upper" So this new "neutral-very little color-famhouse-style-painting-thingy" is growing on me. I really like this painting. When I first started painting for my "fixer upper theme" I kind of freaked out because I knew my usual aqua and orange abstract paintings probably wouldn't work in Joanna Gaines remodeled homes. It's taking a lot of restraint to paint in such neutral tones but I think I am getting there. And I actually like it!
If you read my blog post yesterday then you know about my plan to grow my blog. In my research I have learned a lot about bloggers that make money from affiliate advertising. What that means is it is common for bloggers to include links in their blogs to products that in turn compensate them for the referrals. I would guess that about 90% of the bigger bloggers do it. If you are a blogger that makes money using affiliate advertising then you really need to tell your readers about this with a disclosure statement. What's a disclosure statement? It's a statement that explains you are being paid for referrning products on your blog. By including a disclosure policy you are protecting the integrity of your blog and providing a service to the advertisers, sponsors and organizations that you support you. Disclosure encourages trust amongst your readers and promotes an ethical blogosphere. Sound complicated? Well I have good news. "What Time is It?" Abstract Acrylic Painting 36" x 36" Available. My #1 goal for 2017 is to expand my blog. I posted more blog posts in 2016 than ever ... 263 posts to be exact. And that was about a zillion more than I use to post on my old blog. Well maybe not quite a zillion. And what's the best part? I enjoyed writing every single one.
But there is so much more I want to do with my blog. I want it to be better. I want it to reach more people. I want to develop alliances with businesses that I love and can incorporate in to my blog. And I want to write more posts that are even more interesting to all of you. So what's the good news? |
