Attention all Canvas Hoarders

Yep, that's me. I am definitely a canvas hoarder. Prior to building the storage system above, my canvases were all over my studio, our house and the attic. Painting abstracts really brought massive disorganization to the Carriage House. And I desperately needed a solution to my problem.

My canvas hoarding problem started with the great sale prices at Jerry's Artarama and Michael's. Once I figured out the high quality canvases at Michaels were frequently on sale for 50% off and there was often another 20% off sale prices coupon that could also be used ... well, I was in trouble. 70% off was too good to pass up. Especially on the 48" x 48" and other really big canvases. If you add in the need for thirty large canvases during the Thirty Paintings in 30 Days Challenge then you will understand my need for lots of canvases. Well, kind of.

So that's my story. Canvas hoarder I am.

I can't take credit for my storage idea. Pinterest had a million photos (slight exaggeration) and lots of very expensive storage systems available for sale. I looked at the photos, measured my wall (and the canvas sizes I commonly use) and then searched for an affordable system. I checked out the Container Store (great products but way too expensive), Home Depot (good prices but not tall enough) and U-line (great prices and the perfect height). I then placed the order with U-line, had them delivered the next day and put the shelves together.

It took me all day to build and eleven months later the system is working perfectly. It is still full of canvases. And very organized. Amazing!
Little did I know how important the two inch clearance off the floor would be in the flood last week! We will pretend I planned it that way.

This is a great idea - and I do love Uline products...I didn't even think about them for storage! Now....how to store & manage the wet paintings!?? How do you handle those Leslie?

I'm a canvas hoarder, you're a canvas hoarder, we are happy canvas hoarders. (Sung to the tune of the Barney song)

A great post, Leslie! Your unfortunate flooding incident was a big reminder for me (and probably many of us) to get "stuff" off of the floor in my studio and storage area. Thank you!

Storables has sales once a year on these, but Amazon has been the best bet for us --
