February 29 - March 2, 2016 Three Day Palette Knife Abstract Painting Workshop in ParadisePainting abstract paintings has been one of the best experiences in my painting career. We will spend the first two days painting four abstract paintings, using mood boards and inspiration rooms to help guide the process. My abstract workshops share the love I have for painting abstracts but they also go a step further. On the final day, you will be presented with a challenge from a "potential interior design client". (The client, of course, is fictitious.) You will be given a mood board with photos of a room and samples of fabrics. You will then design a painting to fit the room. I will share how you can present your ideas and give tips on how to work with interior designers in selling abstract painting commissions.

February 29 - March 2, 2016 Three Day Palette Knife Abstract Painting Workshop
Ventura, CA
February 30 - March 2, 2016 ($425.00 for the workshop and $300 for three nights lodging)
Located at our Beach House in Ventura, Ca
9:00 am - 4:00 pm class hours and fun the rest of the time!
Dates for sleeping at the Beach House are the nights of February 28, February 29 and March 1. Check in time is 4:00 pm and check out time is after the last day of the workshop.
Join me for a “Paint Together and Stay Together” workshop at our beach house in Ventura, CA. Four students can stay at the beach house (and yes, you get your own bed!) and an additional six can attend the workshop who don’t need accommodations. We’ll paint during the day (in studio) and then cook an incredible meal and talk about our lives, art and who knows what else! In three days students will learn the approach to painting an abstract using a brush and palette knife, create mood boards and learn how to work with interior designers and clients to sell abstract painting commissions! Plus we’ll have lots of chances to get to know each other, share ideas and get all of those questions about art answered!
Our first day starts off with a unique painting demo in which I demonstrate the basic approach to painting an abstract painting with a palette knife. We will discuss creating mood boards and the process to follow to create an abstract painting. This demo helps students understand the basic approach and guides them to success using a simple step by step approach. We will focus on color mixing and understanding values.
On the second day we will all paint together and create two more abstracts.
The third day will start out with a “field trip” to the Ventura antique flea market. This is a great chance to explore (and look for great still life objects to paint) and enjoy some of the Ventura local fun. Upon our return you will be presented with a challenge from a "potential interior design client". (The client, of course, is fictitious.) You will be given a mood board with photos of a room and samples of fabrics. You will then design a painting to fit the room. I will share how you can present your ideas and give tips on how to work with interior designers in selling abstract painting commissions.
We will also spend talking about marketing. As part of the workshop, we discuss on-line marketing tips and advice when it comes to selling your art.
Cost is $425.00 plus $300 for accommodations (three nights). Two home-cooked gourmet dinners (by yours truly) and breakfasts are included.
Class is limited to 4 students staying at the house with an additional six attending the workshop (without accommodations).
