March 16 - 18, 2016 Three Day Palette Knife Abstract Painting WorkshopPainting abstract paintings has been one of the best experiences in my painting career. We will spend the first two days painting four abstract paintings, using mood boards and inspiration rooms to help guide the process. My abstract workshops share the love I have for painting abstracts but they also go a step further. On the final day, you will be presented with a challenge from a "potential interior design client". (The client, of course, is fictitious.) You will be given a mood board with photos of a room and samples of fabrics. You will then design a painting to fit the room. I will share how you can present your ideas and give tips on how to work with interior designers in selling abstract painting commissions.

I love teaching workshops in Atlanta because the Southern hospitality is always amazing! Plus teaching in Atlanta allows me the chance to invite my students in to my brother’s home and share what I am most passionate about ... my family, cooking and my art. In three days students will learn the approach to painting an abstract using a brush and palette knife, create mood boards and learn how to work with interior designers and clients to sell abstract painting commissions!
My discovering color abstract painting workshop focuses on learning how to apply different color palettes to your paintings. Each day we will paint paintings based on color palettes selected by you and inspired by interior rooms.
Our first day starts off with a unique painting demo in which I demonstrate the basic approach to painting abstracts with a palette knife. This demo helps students understand the basic approach and guides them to success using a simple step by step approach. We will focus on color mixing and understanding values. And ... we will use both fluid and heavy body acrylics.
On the second day we will all paint together and create two more abstract paintings. Today we will focus on using the palette knife to create visual interest and highlighting the focal point in your abstract paintings. Each student will choose a color palette and use that palette in painting their painting. That evening we will all enjoy a home cooked meal at my home, provided by yours truly!

As part of the workshop, we discuss on-line marketing tips and advice when it comes to selling your art.
