August 8 - 10, 2017. Travel dates are August 7 and 11. ($450.00 and includes workshop, lodging and some meals.)
Workshop times are 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
I am pleased to say that we are repeating this incredible workshop again this fall! This very unique workshop was put together by two of my favorite artists, Karen Chick and Barby Cahill. Karen and Barby are opening their two gorgeous homes to all of us for accommodations, meals and painting. This unique workshop will include three days of palette knife painting in some of the most beautiful scenery in the U.S. We will cook fabulous meals, talk and enjoy wine in the evenings and emerge in awe of what Idaho has to offer. In three days students will rediscover their passion for art, learn the basics pertaining to values and colors and master the techniques of painting with a palette knife! The scenery is spectacular.
This workshop will focus on the tools you use to capture light and color while painting the Idaho scenery. Our first day starts off with a quick paint-along demo in which I demonstrate painting the scenery and/or wildlife with a palette knife. This demo helps students understand the basic approach and guides them to success using a simple step by step approach in painting our surrounding scenery with a palette knife. This first day will prepare us for painting the outdoors over the next two days.
On the second day we will all paint together en plein air and paint a beautiful landscape. Today we will focus on using the palette knife to create visual interest and highlighting the focal point in your paintings.
The third day will try something new and different! We are going to switch to acrylic paints and paint abstracted animals with a palette knife on a large canvas! You will see on the supply list I have added a few tubes of acrylic paint. That's all you need! I will provide each of you large sheets of canvas and cardboard for you to use to paint on (we will secure the canvas sheets onto the cardboard). When you are done and your canvases are dry (in just a few hours) , you will be able to roll up your canvas to take home.
Travel days are August 7th and 11th. Please plan to arrive in the early afternoon on the 7th (in time for dinner) and depart in the morning on the 11th. Accommodations are provided on the evenings of August 7 - 10th. Suggested airports are Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City. SLC requires you to rent a car and drive approximately four hours.
Cost is $450.00.
