I know what you are thinking. "This painting is way too bright for "farmhouse styled decor"! I just needed a burst of color today and decided this house, with it's purple pillows, needed some color. And I am sticking with it.

One of the things mentioned on the AHA show this past week was how to create a "look-alike audience" on Facebook Ads Manager. With lookalike audiences, you can find more people on Facebook who share traits — like location, age, gender and interests — with your customers, so your ads reach even more people who’ll care about your business.

It’s easier to sell to current customers than to look for new ones, so why not create a look-alike audience on Facebook? Just use your existing email list and Facebook will find people on Facebook who share the same traits as your existing email list. Then when you place an ad Facebook will share your ad with your existing email customers (who are on Facebook) and your look-alike list. How incredible is that?

Here is how Facebook tells you how to create a look alike audience:
To advertise to new customers, or even abroad, you don't need to put together complex data models. If you know who your best customers are now, we can help you find similar audiences at home or in another country. We call these lists of similar customers 'Lookalike Audiences'.
To create a Lookalike Audience in Ads Manager:
  1. Go to your Audiences
  2. Click Create Audiences in the top left and then select Create a Lookalike Audience from the dropdown
  3. Choose your source (any Custom Audience - including those based on an app, email list, conversion pixel or Facebook Page)
  4. Choose the country where you'd like to find a similar set of people
  5. Choose your desired audience size with the slider
  6. Click Create Audience
Then you can just place your ad. It's that easy.

Leslie, when you speak about 'ad' are you talking about the sponsored ads we see in our feed or in the right column when on our desktop? Versus 'boosting a post'.

Is there a way to create and edit audiences without going through the 'create ad' process? When I click your link to 'audiences' in your post it takes me to my previous campaigns.

Seems like this might incur some privacy issues with giving peoples email addresses to a third party. Hoping this is not the case.

Uploading your email address list to Facebook isn't as issue for me. I certainly trust them and they won't ever publish them, they just use them blindly to send out your ad.
