Well, the thirty day painting challenge is over. I did it. I painted thirty abstract paintings inspired by the beautiful rooms in the TV show Fixer Upper. In thirty days. This Challenge forced me to paint in a different style and a more muted color palette. And I loved every minute of it! You can head on over to the 30 in 30 blog page to see all of the paintings painted by the artists who painted along side me for the last thirty days.
Thanks for enduring the last thirty days with me. Tomorrow I promise some really great tips.

"Sands of the Beach" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Thirty Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper It can't be possible. It's Day Thirty and that means the January Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge is finished! OMG. It doesn't seem possible.
Honestly, I have mixed emotions. I am happy that the stress of painting everyday is over. It had been tough and this year I didn't do as good of a job of painting ahead. But the habit of painting every day is awesome. I love it. And I have made a promise to paint more just like I did this month. So I have my fingers crossed that I will do it. And I have a few more things in my life that I want to do on a more regular basis. What about you? "Absolute Colors" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-Nine Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper I went kind of crazy with the colors on this one. It took quite a few layers (with collage) and the process was so much fun. I don't know if I could ever replicate this one but I might just try!
I hope you are enjoying this Challenge as much as I am. Keep smiling and painting. We only have a few days left! My blog will go back to offering lots of marketing tips and fun things as soon as January is over and I am not painting every single day ... "Wet Sand" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-Eight Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper I had a feeling a painting in browns would work really well with my "farmhouse theme". I cannot believe I haven't painted more paintings in this color palette! What was I thinking? It's amazing how well a monochromatic painting works when it has the right values. I fully intend to paint more abstracts like this! What do you think?
"Green Waves" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-Seven Abstract Acrylic Painting, 40" x 50" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper The month is winding down and I am actually happy. This Challenge has been incredible and I have really enjoyed creating paintings for a farmhouse style home. I have found it interesting how much this has affected me personally. Everything around me is "turning to farmhouse style". The other night my husband called our house "Waco West". It's true, while creating these paintings I have also been re-decorating our house! I also have a new addiction and it's slowly appearing everywhere in our house. I will tell you about that next week! Until then ...
"Texture" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-six Abstract Acrylic Painting, 30" x 40" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper Texture. Oh how I love texture! Creating texture with a palette knife is fun and not too difficult. (Maybe I shouldn't say that and just pretend that it's really hard and takes forever.) Either way, creating texture with paint creates so much more depth to a painting and I highly encourage you all to try it!
Today was a great day. We had an awesome interview on the Artists Helping Artists show with the fabulous award winning oil painter Tony D'Amico. I also finalized my plans to work with an incredible non-profit organization called Dec My Room. Dec My Room is all about creating a healing place for young cancer patients during their hospital stays. They decorate patients rooms in the children's cancer ward specifically designed for their interests and favorite things! I am going to be donating and creating artwork for these special rooms at UCSF Hospital (in San Francisco). I can't wait to help out and start a new style of painting ... my new subject matter will be princesses, disney and everything that kids love! If you would like to find out more about this amazing organization you can visit their website here. They need volunteers, donations and lots of support. I feel so lucky to be able to help out such an incredible organization. "Bands of Glory" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-five Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper Today's painting features a color palette that I do believe works very well in a farmhouse styled room. The horizontal composition works well and the knife strokes allow more detail and texture in the painting. I think this painting would work very well in a black and white themed room. Google Chrome is far and away the most popular browser around and it supports a huge number of extensions, which are essentially plugins that add functionality to your browser. (I call them google goodies.) There are a ton of them that can help you get more work done in short order, while consuming less system resources than standalone apps and integrating more tightly into your workflow.
One of these extensions is called Pablo. Pablo is a powerful tool for creating images to share on social networks, and it comes in handy when you want to grab your followers’ attention in their feeds more effectively than a text-based post could. You can add great text to the photo in a very easy way! The app is great for laying out text, logos and other graphics in correctly sized images for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest posts. It’s easy to align various elements with relation to your canvas, and there’s even a massive library of more than 600,000 background images, as well as templates, to help you get started. The extension lets you grab any image from the Web (just right click the image and select "open with pablo") to begin working on a new creation and also makes it easy to access the tool from anywhere with a single click. It’s hard to believe that this is entirely free to use. "Lots of Life" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-four Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper I am so happy with this painting! There is tons of energy and fun and life. And I think it looks great in this farmhouse style room. It just makes the room. And that is what art is supposed to do. Make a statement and grab your attention. This painting was created with acrylic paint and a palette knife. It's got quite a few layers of paint. And it's got a great focal point. Yahoo.
"Wintery Day" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-three Abstract Acrylic Painting, 36" x 36" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper Ok, I am going to do it. The date is set for Tuesday January 31st at 6:00 pm PST, 9:00 pm EST. I will be in my studio for an hour, watching the show Fixer Upper live, while painting an abstract painting for the house featured on the show. The entire experience will be broadcast on Facebook Live. And will it work? Um, I hope so.
Originally I had hoped to schedule the demo this week. But reality set in and I realized I needed a bit more time to prepare. It’s a new concept and I really excited. At least I think I am. Perhaps I am just a little bit crazy? I have decided to prepare my canvas ahead of time by applying a base coat and additional paint to create some texture. (I will explain all of this on the Facebook Live show.) I am also going to use mediums to speed up the drying time of my acrylic paint. It's going to be really hard to finish a painting in an hour. But I am more concerned about how I am going to watch the Fixer Upper show live, paint a panting and also talk to you all and sound coherent. All at the same time. Hmmm. Keep your fingers crossed that it works. Enough about my crazy idea. This painting (above) was finished a few days ago. (I cannot believe it is day twenty-three of the 30 in 30 Challenge.) It just reminds me of winter. It feels cool and dry to me. Even though I live in California it is winter here too. In fact we had nearly four inches of rain fall in Los Angeles yesterday. That’s crazy! "Look-Alike" 30 in 30 Challenge, Day Twenty-two Abstract Acrylic Painting, 30" x 60" Available and inspired by my favorite TV show Fixer Upper I know what you are thinking. "This painting is way too bright for "farmhouse styled decor"! I just needed a burst of color today and decided this house, with it's purple pillows, needed some color. And I am sticking with it.
One of the things mentioned on the AHA show this past week was how to create a "look-alike audience" on Facebook Ads Manager. With lookalike audiences, you can find more people on Facebook who share traits — like location, age, gender and interests — with your customers, so your ads reach even more people who’ll care about your business. It’s easier to sell to current customers than to look for new ones, so why not create a look-alike audience on Facebook? Just use your existing email list and Facebook will find people on Facebook who share the same traits as your existing email list. Then when you place an ad Facebook will share your ad with your existing email customers (who are on Facebook) and your look-alike list. How incredible is that? Here is how Facebook tells you how to create a look alike audience: To advertise to new customers, or even abroad, you don't need to put together complex data models. If you know who your best customers are now, we can help you find similar audiences at home or in another country. We call these lists of similar customers 'Lookalike Audiences'.
