If You Ask Then You Had Better Listen

Ouch. That's kind of the reaction I received to my post last week about the pop-up subscriber box I added to my blog. I was pretty much blasted by a lot of you and I guess I was a bit surprised.

I hate pop-ups too. But the ones I don't like are the ones that are everywhere on a website or blog. Those are obnoxious and I mentioned that in my blog post. What surprised me though was that you also all hate even one pop up that asks you to subscribe to a blog. Somehow I thought that wasn't offensive. I don't mind them on blogs I visit. Apparently I am in the minority about that one.

I should mention that there was one other issue with my blog post. I included a photo that was a screen shot of my blog with my new pop-up. Unfortunately a lot of you thought that was an actual pop-up and not a photo. So I heard from quite a few of you that the pop-up box wouldn't close and some of you were really irritated. Sorry about that but it was only a photo. Not the real deal. I promise.

I asked you all what you thought and it wasn't positive. So guess what? I got rid of it. (At least I thknk I did! If you get a popup on my blog, please let me know.) So yes, there is no longer a box that pops-up asking you to subscribe to my blog. It's gone. That counts for something. I think.

If you ask then I think you gotta listen.

Yes, it's still here. I didn't mind it except that the "close" button was so pale I couldn't see it. If the pop-up and a clear choice in the body such as "no thanks" "already signed up" or just didn't appear on a blog post someone receives when they're already signed up. :)

Still there! Viewing on my iPad via the Facebook link - maybe not removed for mobile devices? I think the problem with this particular pop up is that the 'close' is barely visible and not within the box. I prefer the 'X' close within the pop up if I have to deal with them.

Well, ironically that pop up is still there this morning, Leslie. I clicked through from your email to the blog and there it was! At least I got to see what it looked like! Yes, listening to our "customers" is key. Hope you have a great week!

Leslie, My husband installed two anti-virus programs that prevent almost all pop-ups on my computer. Almost!!! I don't like pop-ups, either and will usually not continue reading the article or blog when one appears.
On another topic; I will discontinue reading or even unsubscribe to a blog if the writer TOO FREQUENTLY makes me feel like a failure by listing all his/her accomplishments. (I exaggerate to make the point.) Advice is important, but so is encouragement and honesty.

Leslie, one pop up alone is not a big deal. It is the cumulative effect of being bombarded with pop ups all over the place, for so many years, that causes this kind of resistance. Love your art , your big heart, and the work that you do.

Got a pop up when I visited

there are many things now that people put on sites that drive people insane, for me its a lot of moving things. pop ups are annoying when they pop up after being on a site for awhile, when they show up right away i just close them and continue reading. its the all of a sudden pop up that drives me insane.

Ok. The pop-up is now officially gone. Last night I thought I had removed it but I was wrong! For the life of me I could not remember where I had installed it! So I spent another hour this morning searching and I found it. (Adding html code to your site can be tricky!). Sorry about that!

For the record, your pop-up never bothered me one iota! You're one the hardest working, most generous people I've ever come across and I'm so grateful for all I've learned from you. Pop-up, schup-up!
